Garrigues climbs aboard the Madrid 16 Olympic dream
04/10/2007

The Madrid 16 Olympic Bid signed an agreement this morning with Garrigues, the leading tax and legal firm on the Iberian Peninsula, thus making it the first platinum partner of the capital’s Olympic bid.

Furthermore, agreement was also reached for the provision of services whereby Garrigues undertakes to advise the Olympic bid on all relevant tax and legal matters and, in particular, all matters with a bearing on the Candidate File and its submission to the IOC Evaluation Commission.

Mercedes Coghen, Managing Director of Madrid 16, expressed her “immense satisfaction” with this important agreement and stated that she felt “proud of the great support that Spanish companies are beginning to show towards the bid”.

Miguel Gordillo, Managing Partner of Garrigues, declared his “satisfaction in the signing of this agreement, which will allow the firm to once again work alongside the city of Madrid in its endeavor to host an Olympic Games. It is the paramount global sporting event and would constitute a major economic, cultural and social boost both for Madrid and for Spain in general. There is no doubt that the Firm wishes to give its wholehearted backing to the project”.

This partnership is proof that the capital’s Olympic bid is working flat out to lay the foundations of a project to help the capital fulfill a dream shared by all its citizens: to host the 2016 Olympic Games.

Garrigues has extensive experience in tax and legal advice on the submission of Olympic bids and the organization of major national and international cultural and sporting events. The Firm already provided tax advisory services to the Barcelona 92 Olympic Games and was also a platinum partner in the capital’s 2012 Olympic bid.
