King & Spalding advised the Houston Astros Baseball Club in the establishment of its new Latin American baseball academy and sports complex in the Guerra Region of Boca Chica, Dominican Republic. The complex was completed nearly one month ahead of schedule on March 1.
The complex consists of two and a half playing fields, six pitching mounds, batting cages and an observation tower. The facility also includes a building containing educational classrooms, dormitories, dining room, industrial kitchen, weight room, training room, manager and coaches offices, equipment room, clubhouse and laundry room.
King & Spalding advised the Astros on a build-to-suit lease with D. & F. Sport Field Services SA. and a construction agreement with Equipos y Construcciones del Cibao, S.A. The law firm also is representing the Astros on the drafting of several services agreements related to the complex.
