Fernando Carreño: Leadership and Vision at the Opening of Von Wobeser’s New Polanco Offices
"This inauguration is a firm step toward the future, without losing sight of the principles that have defined us since 1986."
Latin Counsel has had the privilege of interviewing Fernando Carreño, a partner at Von Wobeser y Sierra, one of Mexico’s leading law firms. With a career spanning over fifteen years, Fernando not only heads the acclaimed Antitrust practice—advising on some of the most significant cases in Mexican history—but is also a key figure in the Corporate and M&A areas and a fundamental, long-standing member of the Executive Committee.
In a period of institutional renewal and with the inauguration of its new offices in Polanco—a move reflecting its long-term vision—the firm is preparing to celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2026. We spoke with Fernando about this milestone, collective leadership, and the vision driving the future of Von Wobeser y Sierra.
Latin Counsel: The firm is entering a new stage with offices in Polanco, at the heart of Mexico’s most dynamic business hub. How did the decision to make this move come about, and what does this location represent strategically for Von Wobeser y Sierra?
Fernando Carreño: The decision is the operational translation of something we have consistently heard from our clients: they value greater proximity, agility, and a truly personalized experience. Being in Polanco, just steps away from Reforma and in the corporate heart of the city, enhances the frequency and quality of our interactions and allows us to respond with integrated teams. The new space is designed to maximize collaboration across practices and sectors, featuring world-class infrastructure for meetings and joint work. Strategically, it represents effective proximity, smoother coordination, and superior response times, while further strengthening our positioning in a highly competitive environment.
Latin Counsel: You have been part of the Executive Committee since 2019. Following the recent and significant leadership transition and the appointment of the new Executive Committee, how would you describe the firm’s current state and morale?
Fernando Carreño: The state of the firm is solid, focused, and characterized by high morale. The leadership transition has taken place with clear objectives and continuity in our values. The new headquarters has acted as a cultural catalyst: it has reinforced a sense of belonging, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and the conviction that we are building the next stage of Von Wobeser’s growth. There is energy, cohesion, and a very clear orientation toward delivering results for our clients.
Latin Counsel: The new offices represent a strategic investment in the firm’s future. In what way does this new environment, designed to foster collaboration, translate into a better experience and greater value for clients?
Fernando Carreño: The design focused on three dimensions: strategic location, an environment for productivity and client experience, and a configuration that favors cross-cutting work. This translates into better-integrated teams, more agile meetings, greater availability of partners and associates, and processes with less friction. For the client, the effect is tangible: more agility, better-coordinated responses, and a superior experience backed by technology, flexible spaces, and collaborative capabilities that elevate the quality of service day by day.
Latin Counsel: How does the new space reflect the firm’s long-term vision and its commitment to excellence, innovation, and sustainability?
Fernando Carreño: The headquarters is a long-term investment that combines tradition and modernity. It maintains the non-negotiables—integrity and excellence—while simultaneously enabling innovation: integrating technology (including AI) into workflows, standardizing key processes, and creating spaces that encourage the continuous exchange of knowledge. Regarding sustainability, we prioritize resource efficiency, space flexibility, and team well-being, because we know that a responsible environment boosts performance and, consequently, the value our clients receive.
Latin Counsel: Personally and professionally, what does this new chapter in the history of Von Wobeser y Sierra symbolize for you?
Fernando Carreño: It symbolizes continuity and evolution. Personally, it is a confirmation that actively listening to clients and the team leads to better decisions. Professionally, it is a milestone that commits us to collaborating more and responding better, with the ambition of remaining a benchmark firm for complex matters. It is a firm step toward the future, without losing sight of the principles that have defined us since 1986.
Latin Counsel: With the firm’s 40th anniversary just months away, what significance does this inauguration hold within the process of consolidation and renewal that Von Wobeser y Sierra is undergoing?
Fernando Carreño: This inauguration is a turning point in our consolidation and renewal process. Looking ahead to our 40th anniversary, we want clients to identify us as a firm that collaborates better, responds with greater agility, and offers a superior experience, backed by world-class location and infrastructure. In short, we are putting our philosophy into practice: we go where our clients need us, with a space that enhances collaboration and the quality of the service we deliver every day.
