Garrigues integrates Mexican firm Sánchez Devanny  

With this transaction, Garrigues will become one of the largest law firms in Mexico and will strengthen its leading position in Latin America

Garrigues and the Mexican law firm Sánchez Devanny, a full-service firm with almost 30 years of history, have reached an agreement for the integration of the latter before the end of the year. Garrigues will own 100% of the resulting entity, Garrigues Mexico.

The integration of the two firms, which are complementary both in terms of areas of activity and geographical presence, will result in the creation of one of the largest law firms in Mexico, with around 160 professionals (including partners) and offices in Mexico City, Monterrey and Querétaro. The transaction will also bring significant synergies from the combination of the international strength of Garrigues - which has had its own office in Mexico City since 2014 - with Sánchez Devanny’s in-depth knowledge and experience in the Mexican market. The general partners of Sánchez Devanny will become partners of Garrigues.

As a result of the integration, Mexico will become Garrigues’ second market (after Spain), at a time when the country is both a source and recipient of significant capital inflows from the US and Europe. The transaction will also enable the firm to strengthen its leading position in Latin America, where, in addition to Mexico, it is present in Chile, Colombia and Peru.

The integration, scheduled for the fourth quarter of the year, is subject to confirmatory due diligence, the signing of the final contractual agreements and the approval of the relevant bodies of both firms.
