Guzmán Ariza Hosts Delegation from the New York City Bar Association

May 13, 2025

Guzmán Ariza has hosted a delegation from the New York City Bar Association during its visit to the Dominican Republic in May, as part of a mission aimed at strengthening professional ties with the country’s commercial, legal, and governmental sectors. As part of the agenda, two high-level panels were held in Santo Domingo and Punta Cana.

The delegation’s objective was to foster lasting relationships, promote bilateral trade, and position New York not only as a global financial hub but also as a strategic center for dispute resolution and business development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

In Santo Domingo, Guzmán Ariza hosted the specialized panel "New York as a Venue for International Dispute Resolution", held on Thursday, May 8. The event featured the participation of prominent local and international legal professionals and provided a forum to discuss the advantages of selecting New York as a neutral jurisdiction for cross-border arbitration and litigation.

On Saturday, May 10, in Punta Cana, the panel "Doing Business in New York: Legal, Commercial, and Compliance Perspectives" took place, focusing on best practices, regulatory requirements, and specific opportunities for Dominican companies seeking to expand into the New York market.

The delegation was led by William Hochul, First Gentleman of New York State and partner at Davis Polk & Wardwell; alongside New York State Assemblyman Landon Dais; Saso Kraner, partner at Davis Polk & Wardwell; Michael Fernández and Ivory Bishop, partners at Cozen O’Connor; Alexis Colón, manager at Colón & Partners; and Peter Fox, partner at Scoolidge, Peters, Russotti & Fox.

Other delegates included José Arvelo, legal advisor at Covington & Burling; Jessenia Vazcones from Sompo Japan of America; Chris Pioch of Christopher Pioch & Associates; Peggy McGuinness, professor at St. John’s University; Rafael Carmona del Rosal, director at the American Arbitration Association; Joanne Saint-Louis, director at JAMS; and Jaime Chávez Alor, director of the Cyrus R.
