Álvaro is a partner at Consortium Legal - Guatemala. He has 33 years of experience in financial services and fintech, insurance and insurtech, and aviation; he specializes in banking, arbitration, foreign investment and mergers and acquisitions.

During his career he has served as president and member of several ad hoc committees in annulation procedures under the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), an international arbitration institution, as well as Board of Directors president of the Conflict Resolution Commission of Guatemala’s Chamber of Industry.  He participated as ad hoc judge in the Tiu Tojín vs. State of Guatemala case in front of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.  He was a member of Guatemala before the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce -ICC- (2006-2018); member of the Editorial Board of IURISTEC (Compilation of Publications of Judicial Judgments commented), University Professor, columnist in El Periodico and a former dean of the Faculty of Legal and Social Sciences of the Rafael Landívar University.
