Freshfields advises Doughty Hanson and Grupo Hospitalario Quirón on acquisition of Teknon
Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer advises Doughty Hanson and Grupo Hospitalario Quirón, on acquisition of Barcelona-based Centro Médico Teknon.
Grupo Hospitalario Quirón (Quirón), controlled by Douthy Hanson and the Cordón Muro family, has acquired Barcelona’s Centro Médico Teknon, one of the leading private hospitals and a provider of reference in the healthcare sector, from the Spanish private equity firm Magnum Capital Industrial Partners.
With this acquisition, Quirón becomes the leading private hospitals group in Spain, following the integration of USP Hospitales, Spain based private healthcare provider and a portfolio company of Doughty Hanson, in 2012.
The transaction was signed on 3 October. Completion is subject to approval by the Spanish competition authorities, a division of the Spanish supervisor CNMC or Comisión Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia.
The Freshfields team was led by Barcelona-based corporate partner Toni Valverde, corporate senior associates Josep Tomàs and Javier Monzón, and corporate associate Elisabet Rojano. The team also included partner Paco Cantos (competition), senior associate Enrique Carrera (competition) and senior associate Eduard Arruga (finance).
Pilar Muro, President of Grupo Hospitalario Quirón, notes 'the value that Teknon’s success model and healthcare excellence brings in, and the challenge to maintain and further develop it with new investment plans. Once again, we bet for sharing knowledge and resources to gain greater efficiency and better healthcare assistance for patients.’
