Freshfields names new corporate counsel in Spain

December 18, 2016

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer continues to expand its corporate practice in Spain with the election of Miriam Pérez-Schafer as new counsel (professional category immediately preceding that of international partner of the firm). This is the fourth election in the last two years, following those of Javier Monzón (made international partner in May 2016) and Alfonso de Marcos and Joe Amann (made counsel in January 2015 and January 2016, respectively), consolidating the firm’s commitment to the corporate practice in Spain.

Miriam has a Law degree from Madrid’s Universidad Pontificia Comillas (ICADE) and an LL.M. in International Legal Studies from Georgetown University Law Center (Washington, D.C.).  She has dual nationality, Spanish and U.S., and is a member of the Madrid and New York Bars.  She advises clients on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, restructurings, company law and company secretarial and general commercial work. She has wide experience advising domestic and international clients, with a special emphasis on Asian and North American clients, as well as strategic and financial investors, on mergers and acquisitions of listed and non‑listed companies.

For Armando Albarrán, Head of Corporate and M&A in Spain: “Miriam’s election is recognition of the continuing successes of our corporate practice in Spain and evidences the global firm’s confidence in our Spanish team.  It is also recognition of Miriam’s expertise – she is among the few professionals qualified to provide legal advice under both Spanish and New York law.  She is a prominent member of the firm’s Asian and U.S. international groups and her wide experience advising on domestic and multijurisdictional mergers and acquisitions is without doubt a huge asset, adding yet more strength and depth to the consolidated services we offer to domestic and international clients.”

“Miriam’s election is recognition of her professional career and extraordinary contribution to the firm since she joined us”, states David Franco, managing partner of the Madrid offices and a partner in the Corporate and M&A group.  He adds: “Miriam’s talents are perfectly aligned with our global strategy and her solid international expertise enables her to advise global clients wherever in the world they may need us.  We wish her great success going forward.”

Miriam’s election, effective as from 1 January 2017, is made together with a further 18 new elections to counsel across practice groups (seven of them in the corporate group) in Freshfields offices worldwide.
