Garrigues to Merge Operations with Chilean Firm Barros, Silva, Varela & Vigil
Garrigues | International law firm Garrigues has reached an agreement to integrate the practice of Barros, Silva, Varela & Vigil (BSVV) in Chile. Following the completion of contractual documentation and approval by the respective partners’ meetings, the combined firm will operate exclusively under the Garrigues brand in the Chilean market.
The integration combines Garrigues’ international platform with BSVV’s established presence in the local market. The resulting entity will comprise a team of over 130 lawyers, including 24 partners, with the 11 partners from BSVV joining the Garrigues partnership. The firms stated that their advisory approaches and market positioning are highly complementary, allowing for comprehensive coverage across all areas of business law.
For Garrigues, this transaction aligns with its strategic focus on the Latin American region, where it maintains offices in Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru. The firm reported 2025 global revenues of €527.69 million, with international business growing by 44.5% year-on-year. This integration follows the firm’s 2025 expansion in Mexico through the incorporation of Sánchez Devanny.
Fernando Vives, executive chairman of Garrigues, stated that the transaction reaffirms the firm’s commitment to maintaining a leading position in Latin America. Leadership from both firms, including Luis Felipe Merino of Garrigues and Fernando Barros Vial of BSVV, emphasized that the merger is driven by cultural alignment and a shared commitment to client service, innovation, and professional development.
