Hunton & Williams Hires Key Federal Investigator

Hunton & Williams is pleased to announce that Anthony Arico, the former leader of the government's Miami-based financial and drug trafficking unit, has joined the firm to head its investigations division. Arico will play a major role in TurnStone Investigative Group, which provides sophisticated investigative and forensic services.

Arico, who joined Hunton & Williams April 5, was assistant special agent in charge at the financial investigations unit of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency, a division of the Department of Homeland Security. The high-profile unit helped investigate former Nicaraguan President Arnoldo Aleman, who is now serving a 20-year prison sentence for fraud, money laundering and misuse of public funds.

"Anthony brings a wealth of investigative expertise to the firm," says Marty Steinberg, managing partner at the Miami office of Hunton & Williams. "He is highly skilled in money laundering and sophisticated investigative techniques. We are thrilled that he has decided to bring his 27 years of federal experience to Hunton & Williams."

TurnStone has a global staff comprised of former FBI, Drug Enforcement Administration and Customs Enforcement and other domestic and foreign agents. TurnStone's services include forensic accounting, asset searches and exhaustive background checks.

Arico, who earlier directed an organized crime squad for the FBI, says he is eager to begin applying the discipline and knowledge of federal law enforcement to the firm's investigative arm. "There is a world of critical information out that falls below the radar screen of most legal practices,? he says.

He adds that today, litigation can hinge on the presence or absence of inside knowledge. Having the fullest possible understanding of adversaries is essential. "We intend to provide clients with that advantage," he says.
