Marval O’Farrell Mairal launches its 2024 Report on Legal Departments in Argentina: Keys and Trends

December 23, 2024

Marval O’Farrell Mairal has launched the third edition of its Report on Legal Departments in Argentina, an initiative that provides a comprehensive analysis of the corporate legal landscape in the country. Based on more than 2,450 responses from legal leaders in various industries, the report has established itself as an essential tool for understanding the challenges and opportunities facing legal departments in an increasingly complex and regulated business environment.

The document covers a range of topics, from the profile of legal leaders to the integration of technology and artificial intelligence into their operations. One of the key findings is that the majority of these departments are led by highly experienced professionals over the age of 40, working in companies with international structures and multi-geographic responsibilities.

This report not only reflects the current reality of legal departments, but also anticipates the trends that will mark the evolution of the sector in the coming years,’ says Santiago Carregal, Chairman of the firm. The report also reveals a notable gap in technology adoption; although 58% of departments use legal management systems, 42% continue to operate in a traditional manner. This presents a challenge, but also an opportunity, for law firms to develop technology solutions tailored to the specific needs of the sector.

With this report, we aim to provide legal leaders with useful information and tools to help them navigate technological changes and industry trends, and capitalise on the opportunities that arise in a global context," adds Carregal.

In addition, the analysis highlights emerging trends that could transform the sector in the coming years, such as the increased use of artificial intelligence in drafting and reviewing legal documents. It also highlights the growing importance of diversity and inclusion policies, with more than 50% of companies surveyed considering them a key factor when selecting legal suppliers.

Finally, the report highlights the critical role that legal departments play in risk mitigation and strategic business support, functions that continue to be a priority for Argentine companies.
