The combined firm expands its cross-border capabilities across Latin America and the Caribbean while strengthening the region’s connections with the United States, Europe and the Middle East.
Winston Taylor has launched following the combination of Winston & Strawn and Taylor Wessing’s UK-led business, bringing together Winston’s multidisciplinary transactional and disputes practice in Latin America and the Caribbean with the international reach of Taylor Wessing’s UK-led operations.
The combined platform is intended to enhance the firm’s ability to advise clients on sophisticated, high-value cross-border opportunities across the Americas, Europe and the Middle East, while expanding its capabilities in key growth sectors throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.
For the firm’s Latin America and Caribbean practice, the combination provides access to a broader transatlantic platform while retaining the regional knowledge, multilingual capabilities and relationships that have supported Winston’s work across the region.
The value of the combination is expected to flow in both directions. Winston’s Latin America and Caribbean practice brings deep cultural understanding, multilingual capabilities and an established track record in the region, together with an in-house foreign attorney programme and an extensive network of leading Latin American law firms.
These capabilities will strengthen Taylor Wessing’s UK-led business by enhancing its ability to assist clients from the United States, Europe and the Middle East that are pursuing opportunities in Latin America and the Caribbean.
At the same time, the broader reach of Taylor Wessing’s UK-led business provides Winston’s Latin America and Caribbean practice with expanded capabilities across Europe and the Middle East. Together, Winston Taylor aims to offer clients a seamless, one-stop solution for complex cross-border and regional matters.
The firm’s expanded presence in the Middle East is also expected to support the growing flow of capital, investments and strategic projects between the Gulf region and Latin America and the Caribbean.
This cross-regional activity is particularly relevant across infrastructure, energy, private equity, sovereign investment and cross-border finance, sectors in which the combined firm expects its broader international platform to strengthen the support available to clients.
The combination also expands Winston Taylor’s capabilities across several sectors currently driving growth in Latin America and the Caribbean, including technology, venture capital, artificial intelligence, infrastructure, energy, private wealth and private capital.
Talbert Navia, partner at Winston Taylor and Chair of the firm’s LatAm practice, comments: "The formation of Winston Taylor enhances our ability to serve clients across Latin America & the Caribbean through a truly transatlantic platform spanning the Americas, Europe, and the Middle East. The combination also strengthens our capabilities across many of the sectors driving growth in the region today, from technology, venture capital, and AI to infrastructure, energy, private wealth, and private capital. Combined with our strong network of local law firm relationships, we are exceptionally well positioned to guide clients through sophisticated cross-border opportunities."
Winston Taylor will also maintain its Foreign Legal Advisor programme, also known as the Visiting Attorneys programme, as a cornerstone of its Latin America and Caribbean practice.
Through the programme, highly qualified lawyers from Latin American jurisdictions join Winston Taylor for periods of between nine and 12 months. Many are seconded from leading firms within the firm’s regional network or directly from clients.
The participating lawyers bring deep local insight, strong regional relationships and significant cross-border experience, strengthening the value and seamless service that Winston Taylor provides to clients.
By maintaining the programme and its extensive network of leading Latin American law firms, Winston Taylor will combine its expanded presence across the Americas, Europe and the Middle East with the local knowledge and regional relationships of its Latin America and Caribbean practice.
