World Health Organization recognizes parental alienation as a disease
The World Health Organization has registered the term “parental alienation” in the World Statistic Classification of Diseases and Problems Related to Health. This new classification of diseases will be presented for adoption of the Members States of the organization in May during the World Health Assembly. If accepted, it will come into force on 1 January, 2022.
The parental alienation occurs when one of the parents, or custodian or custodian of the children, who could be the grandparents, for example, depreciates the other parent for the child or adolescent.
Recognizing the parental alienation as an illness is essential to its fight. The victim of parental alienation, child or adolescent, suffers most of the time strong psychological consequences that can be perpetuated in time.
The World Health Organization, when recognizes the syndrome of the parental alienation as a disease, reinforces the importance of the combat to this perverse type of conduct that some parents use, violating the fundamental right of children with a healthy family life.
