De Castro & Robles was founded in 1956 by Woodrow de Castro z"l and David Robles z"l . For its first 20 years, the firm actively practised before a United States District Court located in the Canal Zone, focusing on maritime and admiralty matters. Following the entry into force of the treaty between Panama and the United States in 1979, and anticipating the dissolution of the United States District Court, Woodrow De Castro and David Robles were appointed to the presidential commission that established Panama’s first Maritime Court and the Maritime Procedure Code (Law 8 of 1982). Many years later, other partners at the firm, Gabriel Sosa and Alberto López Tom, served on the commission that amended Law 8 and established Panama’s Second Maritime Court.
In the late 1980s, as the firm’s practice expanded, new members joined the firm. Client needs required the firm to broaden its service offering, and De Castro & Robles became a full-service firm, expanding into practice areas including financial, administrative, civil, commercial, labour and criminal law.
They are proud to maintain a personal connection with their principles and values. This philosophy has enabled them to retain clients since the firm began practising in 1956.
