Travieso Evans Arria Rengel & Paz was founded in 1929 by Dr. José María Travieso Paúl, who joined forces with one of New York’s most renowned law firms of the time, which specialised in mining and oil law in Latin America.
The firm initially specialised in oil law, expanding into mining law when it represented U.S. Steel in developing the complex around Cerro Bolívar, the well-known iron mountain, and its Puerto Ordaz complex. Over the years, the firm also built a strong practice in corporate, tax, employment, civil, administrative and regulatory law, litigation and arbitration.
Travieso Evans Arria Rengel & Paz has its own offices in Caracas, Maracaibo, Valencia, Barquisimeto and Puerto La Cruz, and is affiliated with other law firms in Latin America and Europe. It is a member of the prestigious «Club de Abogados» and TAGLaw. For several consecutive years, Travieso Evans Arria Rengel & Paz and its partners have been recognised by Chambers & Partners, Latin Lawyer and similar publications as among Venezuela’s leading legal service providers.
The firm also has an affiliate, TEHAR, S.C., which provides services related to the registration and management of intellectual property and e-commerce. TEHAR, S.C. is a member of the International Trademark Association (INTA), the Asociación Interamericana de la Propiedad Intelectual (ASIPI) and the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI). Chambers & Partners has recognised TEHAR and its managing partner as among the leading firms in intellectual property since 2010, as has the World Trademark Review (WTR).
