Alejandro Martinez de Hoz and Jonathan Ulrich leave White & Case to join Paul Hastings

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Following Jonathan Hamilton’s recent move from White & Case to Paul Hastings as co-chair of the firm’s arbitration practice, Alejandro Martínez de Hoz and Jonathan Ulrich have also left White & Case to join Hamilton at Paul Hastings.

Both lawyers join the firm’s arbitration practice as Of Counsel in the Washington, D.C. office, in a major dual hire that further strengthens the firm’s global arbitration and complex litigation capabilities.

According to Hamilton, Martinez and Ulrich "are proven advocates who have been to battle with me from the World Bank to the Peace Palace and know how to focus on client needs and solutions. They are valued additions to our world-class team as Paul Hastings continues to draw on its strong heritage and build the future of the field".

About Jonathan Ulrich:
Jonathan Ulrich is a seasoned advocate with nearly two decades of experience at White & Case, representing multinational corporations, international organisations, and sovereign states in high-stakes, cross-border disputes. He has advised on some of the most high-profile international arbitration cases in the field, as reflected in coverage in Global Arbitration Review and major news publications.

He has advised on multinational and multi-lingual disputes in every major geographical region of the world. He works with clients in a wide range of industries, including financial services, energy, infrastructure, mining, manufacturing and oil and gas, as well as on a range of sovereignty-related issues.

His international arbitration experience includes investment treaty disputes, commercial arbitration and ancillary proceedings. He has acted in cases before the major arbitral institutions around the world, including ICSID, PCA, ICC, UNCITRAL, VIAC and AAA.
His litigation experience includes representing claimants and respondents at both trial and appellate levels, with a focus on international commercial disputes, state immunity issues and enforcement of arbitral awards.

Ulrich has extensive leadership and project management experience as an attorney, supported by experience in the US military and large-scale disaster relief as a volunteer with the American Red Cross. He complements his international practice with a strong commitment to public service, with a particular focus on pro bono initiatives for military veterans.
For his service to veterans, Jonathan has been recognised by The Veterans Consortium Pro Bono Program (TVC), a leading national organisation, as a TVC Volunteer Inspiring Pro. Jonathan has received the Red Cross Exceptional Volunteer Service Award for his work in disaster relief. His experience includes leading critical elements of large-scale disaster relief operations in response to several major hurricanes and the Flint, Michigan water crisis.

About Alejandro Martínez de Hoz:
Alejandro Martínez de Hoz has over a decade of experience solving complex international disputes across industries, including almost nine years at White & Case. He represents clients in investment treaty arbitrations, international commercial arbitrations, mediations, and related disputes and negotiations, with a focus on Latin America. He has experience in arbitrations and mediations brought under a range of major rules as well as regional institutions, including UNCITRAL, ICSID, ICC, ICDR, and before the PCA at The Hague.

He has represented clients from the U.S. and around the world on dozens of matters across jurisdictions, including Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Peru and the U.S. These have spanned sectors such as renewable and energy sector, gas, construction, mining and metals, airport, highways, local communities, telecommunications, environmental, concessions, insurance, post-M&A, compliance and due diligence issues, pension funds, finance, and sovereign debt.

With over a decade based in the United States, he is a native of Argentina who was recognized as an "under 40 leader in Argentina" and served as President of the Buenos Aires Bar Young Division. He has lectured at universities in the U.S., Mexico and Argentina, such as Fordham University, Georgetown University, University of Miami, Washington University, Monterrey University, and Universidad Austral. He has also presented and published thought leadership articles in various international publications, including in think tanks in Washington D.C. such as the Inter-American Dialogue. He has also received an award for outstanding contribution for pro bono work in Latin America.

Alejandro is licensed as Special Legal Consultant in the District of Columbia and is also admitted as attorney in Argentina.
