Alessandri celebrates its 130 years with friends and clients

With a large attendance of clients and friends, Chilean elite firm Alessandri celebrated 130 years of history. Lawyers, clients and friends gathered at the firm’s offices for an entertaining evening with live music and a delicious cocktail.

Arturo Alessandri, partner of the firm, reflected in his speech on these 130 years, and remembered his namesakes, predecessors and founders. Partner Macarena Gatica emphasized the challenges of the present with a view to the future, in areas such as gender gaps and equity.

Arturo Alessandri highlighted the beginning of this firm "there are very few law firms that can celebrate 130 years", he said and added "our history began in 1893, when Mr. Arturo Alessandri Palma received his law degree. However, the passion of the Lion of Tarapacá was politics: he was twice president of Chile", inviting those present to see his original degree, displayed in one of the rooms of the offices.

He then went on to recount the trajectory of Arturo Alessandri Rodríguez, and highlighted his career, studies and contributions to the Chilean nation and the firm. "He became dean of the Law School of the University of Chile. The current building was built under his administration, when his father was president of the Republic. He was also president of the Bar Association. Along with a brilliant practice of the profession and multiple achievements in courts, he is the only Chilean lawyer who has the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from the Sorbonne University, Paris",  he said of his grandfather.

He also spoke of his father, Arturo Alessandri Besa, of whom he emphasized that he extended the firm’s professional practice to industrial property, "contributing not only as a lawyer, but also as a senator in matters of legislation". Finally, he thanked and greeted the team that today makes up Alessandri, "who have made it possible for this firm to grow and consolidate. I salute my present partners", he said concluding his words.

Macarena Gatica, partner of the firm, emphasized Alessandri’s contribution in its dealings with clients, as well as the pro bono work done for the community.

She began by highlighting that the team is already composed of 75 people, who as a team, have excelled in several international rankings. "We have strengthened the litigation area and we are growing very strongly in arbitration, technology, personal data and cybersecurity, compliance, banking law, fintech, among others. And of course, we continue to be leaders in intellectual property", added Macarena Gatica.

Thanking Chile Mujeres for its contribution, Macarena also commented on the research being conducted by Alessandri Abogados on gender gaps in the legal sector. "We believe that this study will reveal valuable information for our industry, as well as for universities, and will allow us to develop action plans to improve the inclusion of women in the legal labor market, adapting job offers and eliminating gender bias in recruitment. The results of this study will be shared son".
