Bofill Mir Abogados adds former Chilean Competition Agency Officer as Director of its Antitrust and Economic Regulation Practice

Bofill Mir has announced the addition of Manfred Zink as Director of its Antitrust and Economic Regulation Practice. Prior to joining Bofill Mir, Zink held the position of Head of the Enforcement and Compliance Division of the Chilean Competition Agency (Fiscalía Nacional Económica).

One of the most remarkable milestones in his career, developed in both the private and public sectors and which includes nearly a decade at the Chilean Competition Agency, was to take over in 2019 as the first Head of the Enforcement and Compliance Division Unit, a position he held until joining Bofill Mir.

Thus, Manfred led the investigations that resulted in the first injunctions for interlocking practices, for providing false information in merger transactions and for failure to notify participations in competitors. He was also in charge of a series of actions for non-compliance with measures imposed in resolutions of the antitrust authorities.

"I am here to continue strengthening what was already being done in antitrust, and to put my knowledge and experience in the field and in economic regulation at Bofill Mir’s disposal", said Zink. According to the firm, the incorporation of Manfred seeks to strengthen a practice that has impacted almost all areas of law, especially in preventive, merger, and litigation matters.

Manfred adds to the experience of partner Tomás Pérez, head of the Litigation practice, who has an outstanding track record in antitrust litigation and is one of the lawyers with the largest presence in trials before the Court for the Defense of Antitrust (Tribunal de Libre Competencia), according to the latest "Radiografía del Mercado Legal de Libre Competencia" (2014 - 2022), published by the Competition Center of Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez.

"In January of this year, I took on the responsibility of relaunching the firm’s Litigation area, and the incorporation of Manfred, with his experience and background, not only reinforces the litigation practice in antitrust matters that we have been enhancing, but above all, represents a significant boost for the strengthening of preventive advice, compliance and merger operations", said Tomás.

Manfred has focused his career mainly on economic, antitrust, and regulatory matters. He is a lawyer from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (2003) and holds an LL.M. in Economic Regulation, Antitrust and Technologies Law, from the University of California, Berkeley (2011).

In addition, he has developed an academic career in such matters, in both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
