Bustamante Fabara successfully advises Mitsui to invest in the world’s largest Shrimp Farm

BUSTAMANTE FABARA represented MITSUI & CO. LTD. ("Mitsui"), a leading global Japanese company specializing in strategic investments, in the acquisition of a minority stake in INDUSTRIAL PESQUERA SANTA PRISCILA S.A. ("Santa Priscila"), the world´s largest shrimp farm. The transaction is subject to the corresponding regulatory approvals and is expected to be completed by the end of March 2024.

BUSTAMANTE FABARA played a decisive role in the transaction. Following an extensive and highly sophisticated process of negotiation, structuring, and integration, which involved multidisciplinary collaboration across the jurisdictions of Ecuador, United States and Singapore, BUSTAMANTE FABARA successfully laid the groundwork that enabled the successful consolidation of this operation.

Founded in Ecuador in 1976, Santa Priscila is the world’s largest shrimp farming company, currently employing approximately 16,000 individuals. Mitsui is a multinational company engaged in trade and strategic investments, with interests spanning mineral and metallic resources, infrastructure projects, energy, food, communications, and corporate development. Mitsui operates 140 offices in 65 countries and regularly engages in multilateral and cross-border business endeavors.

This transaction marks a milestone in the country’s aquaculture market. The shared focus of both companies on operational excellence, innovation, and commitment to the communities in which they operate will establish the foundation for a mutually beneficial and sustainable collaboration. Through this investment, Mitsui will strive to add value to the Ecuadorian aquaculture industry and provide sustainable tools to maintain its position as a global leader in the shrimp sector.
