PBP Promotes Five new Directors and two Senior Associates  

Pérez Bustamante y Ponce (PBP) has announced the promotion of five lawyers to directors of the firm in the context of its latest round of promotions, as well as two senior associates.

The promoted lawyers, who cover five key practice areas, are Alegría Jijón Andrade (Dispute Resolution), Estefanía López Verdú (Energy and Natural Resources), Juan Francisco Simone Lasso (Banking, Finance and Insurance), María Teresa Borja Pazmiño (Dispute Resolution) and Ricardo Velasco (Public Procurement, Compliance and Anti-Corruption).

According to the firm, each of these professionals has accomplished extraordinary work, demonstrating commitment to the team and leadership in tackling clients’ challenges.

About the new directors:

Alegría Jión-Andrade
Alegría has participated in international arbitrations administered by the ICC, CIAC, ICSID, and ad hoc arbitrations subject to UNCITRAL rules in various sectors such as construction, energy, mining, oil, commercial, government contracts, insurance, among others. She is also active in local arbitration. She has extensive experience in judicial litigation related to arbitration, such as annulment proceedings and enforcement of foreign and local awards. She also advises companies in pre-litigation negotiation and mediation processes.

Estefanía López-Verdú
Estefanía specializes in Energy and Natural Resources. She has been actively involved in various delegations to private enterprise through public-private partnerships, strategic alliances and concessions, guiding clients from the presentation of private initiatives to the execution of contracts.

Juan Francisco Simone-Lasso
Juan Francisco concentrates his practice on legal support for financial and corporate transactions, financial regulation and insurance law. In recent years, he has taken part in the most sophisticated financial transactions in Ecuador such as the first issue of green bonds in the local market and the first DR securitization. He has also advised the most important stakeholders in the local FinTech and payments industry.

María Teresa Boria-Pazmiño
María Teresa concentrates her practice on high-profile domestic and international dispute resolution. Specifically, she focuses on international investment and commercial arbitration as well as administrative law disputes. She has represented clients in arbitrations under ICSID, UNCITRAL, ICC, CAM Santiago, Mercosur Court of International Arbitration, and IACAC rules. She has extensive experience in construction cases, mining, joint ventures, international investment arbitration, domestic arbitration, civil and commercial law agreements and energy law.

Ricardo Velasco-Cuesta
Ricardo specializes in public and regulatory law, dispute resolution and compliance, including public procurement, human rights and administrative law. He is experienced in litigation, arbitration and mediation. Likewise, he focuses on compliance and money laundering matters. He is the director of the World Compliance Association Ecuador Chapter and he has ample experience advising national and international companies on the implementation of compliance programs and advising clients on investigations following reports.
