Bofill Mir advises Geely on joint-venture with Renault

The new JV intends to launch a ground-breaking high-power train technology company (Powertrain) for the combustion engine and hybrid business


Bofill Mir has advised Geely on the creation of a joint venture with Renault Group, with the aim of launching a new powertrain technology company which intends to become a world leader in the development, manufacture and supply of high-efficiency hybrid and ICE powertrains, in order to meet the global demand for such technology in the coming years.

The JV aims to offer solutions for 80% of the global ICE and hybrid market.

In addition, the firm advised Geely in the due diligence of Renault’s business in Chile, participating in the review of corporate, regulatory, labour, real estate, intellectual property, contracts, etc., of Renault’s Chilean subsidiary.

The deal also took into account Renault’s businesses in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Portugal, Romania, Spain and Turkey.

The advice to Geely in China was led by Jones Day. The advice in Chile it was led by Bofill Mir Partners Octavio Bofill and Rodrigo Saffirio with the support of Antonia Ballacey (Senior Associate, Corporate), Sebastián Fernández and Benjamín Guerrero (Associates, Corporate), Cristián Franetovic (Director, Regulatory), and Rafael Sandoval (Associate, Labor).
