Acquisition of 13.8% of Grupo Abril

On July 7, the acquisition of 13.8% of Grupo Abril (Brazil?s largest publishing and printing conglomerate) by private equity funds managed by Capital International, Inc. was closed. The value of the deal was US$ 50 million.

The transaction was structured as a private issuance of shares.

Pinheiro Neto ? Advogados, through partner Carlos Alberto Moreira Lima Jr. and associate Álvaro Martins dos Santos, acted as Brazilian Counsel for Capital International, Inc while Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, through partner John Vasily and associates John Morgan and Victoria Park, acted as its US Counsel.

Grupo Abril was represented by Machado, Meyer, Sendacz e Opice Advogados (Brazilian Counsel) through partner José Roberto Opice and associate Mauro Cesar Leschziner.

Arnaldo Tibyriçá and Rodrigo Panico were the in-house lawyers of Grupo Abril working on the deal.
