Alessandri celebrates World Intellectual Property Day

Alessandri | In observance of World Intellectual Property Day, Alessandri hosted the Pre-INTA Reception in Chile. The event, organized in collaboration with the International Trademark Association (INTA), focused on strengthening professional relationships and addressing key IP issues ahead of the 2026 INTA Annual Meeting in London.

The reception, held on April 23 at Alessandri’s offices, gathered authorities, representatives from IP organizations, firm clients, and practitioners. Rodrigo Velasco A., partner at Alessandri, opened the session by recognizing the contributors to the development of intellectual property in Chile.

Government and Institutional Perspectives
The Undersecretary of Cultures and the Arts, Carlos Lobos, emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to IP as a driver for cultural and economic development, highlighting its role in public policy formulation. Subsequently, Sebastián Gómez, Chief Representative Officer for Latin America and the Caribbean at INTA, discussed the association’s global efforts in trademark protection and promoted the upcoming Annual Meeting (May 2–6) as a critical hub for legal education and networking.

Esteban Figueroa, National Director of INAPI, noted the ongoing collaboration with INTA regarding the modernization of industrial property offices. Figueroa defined IP as "critical infrastructure" for the country, stressing the necessity of public-private partnerships.

Launch of ANEI
The event served as the platform for the presentation of the National Association Against Illicit Economies (ANEI). This multi-sector initiative aims to coordinate efforts against counterfeiting, smuggling, and illegal trade through public-private cooperation.

Arturo Alessandri, President of ANEI, addressed the challenges posed by illicit trade to the IP ecosystem. He advocated for a transition from diagnosis to concrete action, positioning the private sector as a strategic ally to the State in safeguarding innovation and economic growth.
