Craig VanGrasstek presents new trade wars book at Alessandri

Alessandri hosted international trade academic and expert Craig VanGrasstek during his visit to Chile to present On Trade War, his latest book, published by Cambridge University Press in 2026.

The event, held at the firm’s offices and organized together with the International Trademark Association (INTA), brought together Alessandri lawyers to discuss the ongoing transformation of the international trading system.

The meeting also included Sebastián Gómez, Chief Representative Officer of INTA, and Alejandro Jara, an international trade lawyer and arbitrator with the World Trade Organization (WTO)’s Multi-Party Interim Appeal Arbitration Arrangement (MPIA).

During the discussion, VanGrasstek presented some of the main ideas explored in On Trade War, which examines the historical evolution of trade wars and their impact on the current international landscape.

Topics included the growing rivalry between the United States and China, the role of major powers in shaping global trade, and the challenges these changes create for third countries and open economies such as Chile.

The meeting gave Alessandri lawyers an opportunity to exchange views on these developments and consider trends that could affect business, investment and international economic relations over the coming years.

The event formed part of VanGrasstek’s agenda in Chile surrounding the presentation of On Trade War, which also included meetings with government authorities, academics and other stakeholders involved in international trade.
