Fernando has served as a strategic corporate lawyer to multinational, regional and local corporations doing business in Costa Rica and the rest of Central America. His work focuses on corporate matters, including cross-border commercial transactions involving mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, corporate reorganisations, foreign investment, legal aspects of market entry, compliance regulations and corporate governance. He also works on structuring projects in energy generation, telecommunications and infrastructure, as well as establishing manufacturing and shared services operations for companies under Costa Rica’s Free Trade Zone regime, including several Fortune 500 companies.
Fernando also heads the Telecom, Media and Technology (TMT) practice, leading lawyers who specialise in new technologies, data protection and information technology law to meet clients’ needs.
Several international publications have recognised his responsiveness and client service. Chambers and Partners has praised him as an “excellent lawyer” with “a wealth of experience and knowledge”. Who’s Who Legal describes him as “among the best for local and multinational companies when it comes to restructurings and complex corporate transactions” and says that “market sources praise his work on corporate matters and family businesses”.
Fernando holds an LL.M. from Georgetown University Law Center, Washington, DC (1998). He is a lawyer admitted to practise in the Republic of Costa Rica (1995, Cum Laude distinction), a notary public and the author of several articles in international publications.
