Gustavo P. Giay

Gustavo Giay has been a member of Marval O’Farrell Mairal since 1995 and a partner since 2003. He works in the firm’s intellectual property litigation department, handling trademark and copyright cases. He has also successfully brought court actions against trademark counterfeiting on behalf of intellectual property rights holders.

He has extensive experience advising companies and individuals on intellectual property matters, particularly contractual issues. He also advises on matters relating to the internet and new technologies, including contractual and legal issues.

He has spoken at intellectual property law congresses and conferences.

Education

• Giay graduated from the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences at the University of Buenos Aires, where he earned a law degree with a focus on business and economic law in 1994.
• In 1994, he attended postgraduate courses in corporate legal advice at the University of Buenos Aires. In 1996, he continued his studies in the United States, earning a Master of Laws degree from Northwestern University School of Law in Chicago in 1997. He has also attended courses in corporate legal advice at the University of Buenos Aires and in intellectual property law at the University of Palermo.

Academic Activities

• He has been a guest lecturer at various academic institutions in Argentina and abroad.

Memberships

• He is a registered industrial property agent and a member of the Argentine Association of Industrial Property Agents (AAAPI), the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI) and the Licensing Executives Society (LES).
