L. Santiago Soria

Santiago Soria joined Marval O’Farrell Mairal in 1997 and became a partner in 2008.

He has extensive experience in complex litigation, including corporate disputes, disputes in the oil and gas, energy, mining and construction industries, as well as class actions and commercial contracts. Santiago currently focuses his practice on arbitrations before leading international and domestic institutions, including the International Chamber of Commerce, UNCITRAL, the Arbitral Tribunal of the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange and CEMA.

Before joining the firm, he worked at the Civil and Commercial Court of Appeals of La Plata, Buenos Aires Province.

Education

• Santiago graduated with honors from the National University of La Plata in 1996, earning the Joaquín V. González Award. In 2001, he pursued postgraduate studies at Cornell University’s Institute of International and Comparative Law. In 2007, he completed the PIDA Training in International Commercial Arbitration before the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC); in 2018, he completed the ICC’s Advanced Arbitration Academy for Latin America.

Memberships

• He is director of the Argentine Committee for National and Transnational Arbitration (CARAT) and a board member of the Mediation and Arbitration Center (CEMA). He is also a member of the Buenos Aires City Bar Association and the Spanish Arbitration Club.

Awards and Recognition

• Santiago is ranked in Band 2 in Chambers and Partners’ Latin America rankings for Dispute Resolution, where he is described as “a very intelligent lawyer” who is “involved in a high-profile international arbitration case and demonstrates the standing and skill of an international lawyer.”
