Ricardo A. Ostrower

Ricardo Ostrower has led Marval O’ Farrell Mairal’s Litigation and Arbitration Department since 2017. He has extensive experience in complex civil and commercial arbitration and litigation for leading clients, including claims in the oil and gas sector, cross-borderdisputes, class actions, commercial contracts and corporate disputes. He litigates before leading international and domestic arbitration institutions, including the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) and the Arbitration Tribunal of the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange, among others.

Education

• Ricardo graduated with honours from the University of Buenos Aires law school. In 1992, he received the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation Award for the highest grade-point average in the law degree programme.

Memberships

• He is president of the Commercial Mediation and Arbitration Centre (CEMARC) and vice-president of the ICC Argentina Arbitration and ADR Commission. He is also a founding member of the Argentine Committee for National and Transnational Arbitration (CARAT), a member of the Argentine Association of Procedural Law (AADP) and the Spanish Arbitration Club (CEA). He is also on the roster of arbitrators of the Ibero-American Arbitration Centre (CIAR).

Awards and Recognition

• Chambers Latin America and Chambers Global describe him as “impeccable, providing a level of certainty through his analysis and dedication that ensures he achieves the right result”. Chambers and Partners has also said: “The quality of his legal advice is first class.” He has also been recognised by Who’s Who Legal, Latin Lawyer 250, LACCA Approved and The Legal 500. In WWL’s Thought Leaders Litigation 2020, he was the only Argentine lawyer listed, and he was named Litigator of the Year in Argentina at the 2021 Benchmark Litigation Latin America Awards.

Publications

• For several years, various publications have selected him as one of Argentina’s leading commercial litigators. He is also the only lawyer ranked in Band 1 in the Dispute Resolution category of Chambers and Partners Latin America.
• Ricardo has written numerous articles on his area of specialisation and regularly participates in national conferences and international seminars.
