Santiago del Rio joined Marval O’Farrell Mairal in 2006 and is currently a partner in the Competition practice.
He advises companies on competition law matters across a wide range of markets. He has extensive experience in complex merger control filings, as well as investigations into anticompetitive conduct, both before administrative authorities and in court.
He graduated from Universidad del Salvador in 2005 and completed a Postgraduate Course on Economics for Competition Law (merit) at King’s College London.
From 2010 to 2011, he worked in the Madrid and Brussels offices of Spanish firm Uría Menéndez. He has worked on Phase I and Phase II mergers, investigations into conduct under Articles 101 and 102 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, and appeals before the Court of Justice of the European Union.
He regularly publishes on matters in his practice area, including in the Argentine chapters of the Public Competition Enforcement Review, Merger Control Review and Oxford Global Antitrust Compliance Handbook, as well as in various international and national publications.
Throughout his career, Santiago has been listed in international rankings as Up and Coming (Chambers & Partners 2019), Next Generation Lawyer (Legal 500 2020) and Future Thought Leader (Who’s Who Competition 2020). He is currently chair of the Competition Commission of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in the Argentine Republic and a member of the board of the Competition Commission of the Buenos Aires City Bar Association.
