January 15, 2024 - BFE+, a leading firm in dispute resolution, regulation and competition with teams in Latin America and Spain, announces the tenth edition of the Free Competition MOOT, which on this occasion will focus on the control of mergers between professional soccer associations. This event will take place between July 31 and August 3, 2024 in Lima.
This annual initiative, organized together with the Universidad del Pacífico Law School, already has the key dates for this edition:
- March 2024: launch of the case
- April-May 2024: registration
- May-June 2024: writing stage
- July 31-August 3, 2024: in-person oral rounds
The BFE+ MOOT combines professional and academic practice, creating a space in which law and economics students from around the world have the opportunity to test their knowledge in front of demanding juries of lawyers and economists specializing in competition and regulatory issues.
The main objective of MOOT is to give university students the opportunity to experience an interdisciplinary competition as close as possible to real practice. In the nine editions of the event, students from multiple Spanish-speaking countries have participated, such as Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Spain, Guatemala, Mexico, Paraguay and Peru.
In the 2023 edition, the University of Chile won first place in a competition in which 112 economics and law students from 15 universities in Latin America and Spain participated, as well as 117 local and international referees. The Universidad Diego Portales (Chile), the Universidad de Piura (Paraguay) and the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (Peru) are other universities that have won awards during these nine editions of the Free Competition MOOT. Other outstanding universities such as Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (Spain), Pontificia Universidad Católica de Ecuador (Ecuador) and Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (Colombia), among many others, have also participated in the event.
This project was awarded as "Best International Legal Initiative" in the last edition of the National Law Gala (Legal Marcom Awards).
