Salvador Garza Montemayor

Mr. Garza-Montemayor was born in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, on September 4, 1975. He was admitted to practice in Mexico since 1997. Mr. Garza-Montemayor obtained his Law Degree from the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (Monterrey Campus) in 1997. In that year, he also coursed a program emphasizing the study of the U.S. Legal System, at the Summer Institute of International & Comparative Law of Cornell Law School and the Université de Paris I (Panthéon-Sorbonne). He obtained his Master’s Degree (LL.M.) on International Business Law in the year 2000 from McGill University in Montreal, Canada.

Mr. Garza-Montemayor is a founding partner and head of the international trade and customs practice of the law firm Fegamo & Vasaf, where he principally advises foreign companies in all its operations in Mexico. Prior to starting the law firm Fegamo & Vasaf, Mr. Garza-Montemayor was for 10 years legal counsel and head of the foreign trade and customs practice of the Monterrey office of an important international law firm, and previously collaborated in the NAFTA Trade Office of the Ministry of Commerce and Industrial Development (SECOFI) at the Embassy of Mexico in Canada.

• Author: "Reforming Personal Property Security Law in Mexico" (Master’s Thesis). A study of Mexico’s secured financing system.
• Author: "Liberalization of Trade in Professional Legal Services: Mexico & NAFTA’s Chapter 12".  A study regarding cross-border trade in professional legal services.
• Additionally, Mr. Garza-Montemayor has been a guest speaker for a number of seminars related to international trade, "Doing Business in Mexico" and foreign investment organized by private law schools in Mexico, as well as by various local and international associations including, among others, Mexico Now, Casa San Antonio, the Cámara Nacional de la Industria de Transformación (CANACINTRA), the Asociación Nacional de Fabricantes para la Industria de Refrigeración (ANFIR), the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Mexico (CANCHAM), the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM), several Maquiladora and Customs Broker Associations in Mexico, the Ministry of Economic Development of the State of Nuevo Leon, the "Núcleo de Negócios Internacionais da Associação Empresarial de Joinville (ACIJ)" in Brazil, as well as for different commercial delegations from states or provinces of other countries interested in doing business in Mexico.
