New leader of patents joins global firm Baker & McKenzie
Baker & McKenzie announces the joining of Martín Miguel Pereyra Castellá as leader of the patent practice within the Intellectual Property Group in Mexico, and as member of the Firm's Patent Committee in Latin America.
Martín joins our Mexico City office to strengthen the global strategy of the practice and continue its promotion, in addition to giving an added value to our clients regarding patents and new creations, which are usually the companies' most valuable intangible assets.
His experience will enrich the Firm's team of professionals in the preparation and filing of applications of patents, industrial designs, and utility models, as well as in searches and patentability analysis.
Martín graduated from Law School at Universidad Anáhuac del Sur. He has a master's degree in Industrial, Intellectual Property and Information Companies by Universidad de Alicante in Spain, and a Doctorate in Company Law (J.D.) by Universidad Complutense de Madrid in collaboration with Universidad Anáhuac del Norte. In addition, he has a Diploma in Copyrights Arbitration.
Before joining Baker & McKenzie, he worked for more than 17 years at several renowned law firms of our country, providing advice on processing trademarks, patents, copyrights, and vegetable varieties in Mexico and Latin America. He is knowledgeable in drafting and negotiating agreements of different nature, administrative-law litigation pertaining intellectual property, and due diligences. He is responsible for managing, planning, and maintaining portfolios, and for designing appropriate legal strategies for the protection of new inventions.
Martín has been regarded as one of the most recognized patent lawyers in Mexico for his dedication and competence, and is the current President of the Patent Committee of the Mexican Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AMPPI for its Spanish initials). In addition, he was a member of the Licensing Executives Society during 2012-2013.
“The joining of Martín to our work team meets our Firm's growth strategy and reiterates our commitment to offer the highest quality services. His leadership and knowledge will contribute to our positioning and the expansion of our Intellectual Property Practice in Mexico and Latin America," commented Andrés Ochoa Bünsow, National Managing Partner of Baker & McKenzie México.
