Mauricio Salas has more than 20 years of experience in the legal profession. He heads the firm’s Dispute Resolution practice and ZONE, the environmental consulting arm of BLP’s group of companies.
In dispute resolution, he is on the roster of arbitrators appointed by member states under free trade agreements with the United States (CAFTA) and Mexico, among others. He is an active litigator before the courts of Costa Rica. He serves as president of the Administrative Council of the International Conciliation and Arbitration Center (CICA-AMCHAM) and is a member of the arbitration commission of the ICC’s national chapter. In recognition of his experience in this area, Mauricio has been included on the roster of expert arbitrators of the Ibero-American Arbitration Center (CIAR).
In environmental law, he has a background in natural sciences and has advised the country’s leading environmental NGOs on regulatory matters. He is also an active litigator in cases involving natural resources, compliance and enforcement, permits and remediation, and represents clients before and oversees matters involving regulatory agencies. He also serves on the board of the Organization for Tropical Studies.
