Alfonso Gutiérrez Cerdas

Alfonso is an expert in litigation, arbitration and public law. During his career, he served as an assistant judge of the Fourth Chamber of the Supreme Court of Costa Rica (2001-2005) and as an assistant magistrate of the First Chamber of the Supreme Court of Costa Rica (1991-1999). At the University of Costa Rica School of Law, he served as coordinator of the postgraduate programme in commercial law and as a professor of commercial law.

He has served on arbitral tribunals at the Arbitration Centre of the American Chamber of Commerce and in arbitrations at the Costa Rican Chamber of Commerce. He is a founding member and chair of the board of the Omar Dengo Foundation in Costa Rica. He has also participated as a founding member of the Costa Rica-USA Foundation for Cooperation.
